Biosciences

interdisciplinary doctoral study program

Wood is the most promising natural renewable polymer composite, which, because of its exceptional properties, enables practically unlimited methods of use of the material.

The scientific field of wood and biocomposites is defined by two basic subjects, which enable in depth knowledge to be obtained of the properties and technological production and processing of wood and similar ligno-cellulose materials.

Elective and methodological subjects attempt to provide students with the possibility of content building content for specific research supported with top research equipment.

The programme stresses a topical research content of creating and modifying the quality of wood, the structure and properties of wood and the extent of the life cycle of products from wood and biocomposites. A doctoral student will have the opportunity to supplement knowledge in the fields of technologies of mechanical processing, the development of adhesives, modern processes of biotechnological and chemical processing of wood, modifying the aggregate state of wood and the development of new products, biocide and non-biocide protection of wood, use of nanomaterials in wood processing, various aspects of use of wood for energy and development of the competitiveness of wood companies.

Having completed studies, a candidate will be cabable of creative independent research work in the wide interdisciplinary field of wood processing. He or she will be qualified to recognise basic scientific problems or for creatively adding value in a wood company and the economy, and for solving demanding tasks in public administration and other institutions that employ  staff with the highest qualifications.
